Condition update May 11

Doug Wright -

Friday May 8, two liters of fluid were drained from my pleural cavity, relieving my breath, and allowing me to function more normally.
This afternoon, May 11, the oncologist suggested that we wait and see how symptoms develop. He examined me and said, "Right now I don't see anything that will take you in six months." We scheduled a return in one month. Of course, this is very encouraging.

Great ... maybe in 25 years when he says you only have an additional 45 years left, I will have learned to use a blog so well that I don't have to log on as "anonymous"! :-)

Doug,

I have not seen you in 35 years. I recently contacted Paul and I was going to ask how you were when he sent me the link to your Blog. I had no idea that you were going through this. I don't know how many doctors or second opinions you have received, but take it from one who knows, Ask around about different doctors. If there is any way that you can do that you may find a better answer. I spent 8 months being told I had MS. As soon as I found a better medical group I got a better diagnosis. Not a wonderful one, but much better than MS, and a treatment that would stop me from getting worse.

I would say for you to stay positive, but if you are still anything like I remember you, then you are handling this better than any of the people you love and those who love you.

You are in my thoughts, I hope that you prove them wrong like I did!

Doug,
Hi there, we've never met. I'm a cousin of Paul that lives in Wisconsin. I hope and pray that all goes well with you. Stay strong and remember how many people in this world that really care about you. God Bless, Dina

Doug, I know we've only talked a couple of times but Tom Cronin told me about your situation and I just wanted to say that I will keep you in my prayers. Stay strong and God Bless.

Hey Doug. Well, this really sucks. Of all the freakin' things . . . I'm so glad that draining the fluid is helping you to feel better, though. You're big and tough as a bull, so I have no doubt that you will be sticking around for awhile. I'm sure you have some more writing and painting to do . . .(and devil women as well, hee hee).

Thank you for trusting an old friend like me, by letting me know your situation. I will send some California sunshine your way every chance I get. Keep writing, keep looking at flowers, rocks and trees and keep believing in your own strength and the power of love and friends.
What I do not get is why this happened? This is always the toughest question for me to answer about so many things....
WHY questions should be BANNED! Only happy/easy questions and answers allowed.
So, ok no more of that!

Hi Doug,
You've been in my thoughts since I heard the news. For as often as I saw you at Health and Wellness, I can hardly believe your lungs were so sick. But it's clear you are a fighter...and my fighting thoughts are with you.

Doug...How did I not know this? My heart is breaking that I have not been there for you during this trying time. I'm so sorry I have not been around and didn't even know about your condition. You are someone that has affected my life on a very deep level and if there is anything I can do, I am here. Much love and light, grace and peace~Kim Tiernan

Doug,
I am so sorry to hear this news. From my very first class in college to my continued search through the "what now" moments you have always been an inspiration. You were always so supportive and I know you were honestly proud of your students as they learned and grew. So many of us are in debt to you and have become much better and passionate people for knowing you. You are in my thoughts.

Hello Bean,
I am sooo sorry for missing you and Paul last summer. An opportunity I will always regret. I very rarely use my cell phone and didn't get the messages for 2 days. Still, I should have contacted you later even if I missed seeing you while you were in my area. It's hard to believe my big beautiful bean is so sick. Please know I'm thinking of you, remembering your wonderfulness and sending good and hopeful thoughts. You have always been a huge part of my life. My baby bro and I have season tix to the symphony. I doubt I would have my love for music if it weren't for our afternoons playing gin :~} and your introducing me to so many forms of music in so many different ways. I think of you at every concert. (Wouldn't the bean love this!) We recently heard Beethoven's 7th, his 3rd, The Planets - complete with visuals, Shaharazade (sp?) and so many more. I remember them as some one of your favorites. My love of art museums and art in general stems directly from my time with you. You even gave me some knowledge of philosophy and different ways of looking at the world and man's peculiarities.
There is no question I am a better person for having you in my life. Thank you. Please forgive my not contacting you earlier.
Love always,
The Bun
